Online WSET Award in Wines

The WSET online courses cover the same information as the classroom courses but have the added flexibility of not having to physically attend the classes, meaning you can learn about the world of wine from the comfort of your own home.

 

PLEAE NOTE: You will still need to attend the school for your exam, however the WSET Awards have now announced that online exams will be available from the 1st June for Level 1 and 2. Once available the onine exams will be offered to  students as an alternative to the classroom exams.

COURSES OFFERED:

A four-week online study programme that works around your schedule.
You’ll learn through WSET’s Online Classroom, which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator. 

A minimum of three hours study per week is recommended to successfully complete the course and regular participation is essential.
Tasting is also an essential part of this course, and you will need to taste a minimum of six wines (not provided as part of the cost, in order to make this as affordable as possible the WSET has partnered with Vinovae. https://www.e-tasting.com/).

The course fee includes a year of access to WSET's Online Classroom, a dedicated online tutor and your examination (wine samples are not included). 

Please note that the exam must be completed in person at TheDrinkSchool.

How long is the Level One course?
4 weeks online guided study split into 7 modules including revision
Is there an exam?
There is an exam with 30 multiple choice questions at the end of the course. The pass mark is 70%.
The Exam must be completed at TheDrinkSchool.
Do I have to take the exam?
No, but it is recommended and a great way to finish out the course also if you don't sit the exam you won't get the certificate.    
What will I gain?
Once you have passed your exam you will be awarded with Level One Award in Wine certificate and a WSET lapel pin.

You will need to source your own wine samples and participate in various online lessons, activities, tests and forums.

A minimum of six hours of study per week is recommended to successfully complete the course and regular participation is essential to your success.

Do I have to hold the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines?

No – but if you are a beginner, you might want to take the Level 1 course first to gain confidence.

How long is the Level 2 Course?

5 Week course with 6 hours of recommended study time per week

Is there an examination?

There is an exam with 50 multiple choice style questions. There is no tasting in the exam!  The pass mark is 55%.

The exam must be completed at TheDrinkSchool.

Do I have to take the examination?

No, but it is recommended and a great way to finish out the course also if you don't sit the exam you won't get the certificate.

What will I gain?

Once you have passed your exam you will be awarded the WSET Level 2 Award in Wine Certificate, a WSET lapel pin, and you will be able to use the WSET Certified logo. This is a globally recognised qualification.

Do I need to study in advance?

This is a fairly advanced course so we recommend booking early so we can dispatch your course materials giving you time to study before the course starts.

A nine-week online study programme that works around your existing commitments.
You’ll learn through WSET’s Online Classroom, which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator. 

As part of your fee, you will be invited to attend a tasting tutorial day at TheDrinkSchool to help you prepare for the tasting examination. Other than this tutorial, you will need to source a minimum of 12 wine samples (not provided as part of the fee, but you will be given guidance on the styles you need to source).

A minimum of 10 hours of study per week is recommended to successfully complete the online course and regular participation is essential to your success.

As you work through the course you will be asked to share your learning experience with the rest of the course group, looking in detail at the influences that affect each wine style and sharing tasting notes.

The course fee includes your study pack, a year of access to WSET's Online Classroom, a one-day tasting tutorial (wines included), a dedicated online tutor and your examination. Other wine samples and tasting glasses are not included.

Do I have to hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines?

The Level 2 course gives you the knowledge and confidence to complete this course.

Those without the expected level of knowledge may find this course very challenging so we will contact those booking the course to check their understanding of the material.

How long is the Level 3 Course?

9 Weeks with a minimim of 10 hours per week recommended

Is there an examination?

There is an exam with 50 multiple choice style questions and four short written answers.

There is also a tasting paper of 2 blind wines. 

The pass mark is 55% for both sections of the exam.

The exam must be completed at TheDrinkSchool.

Do I have to take the examination?

No, if you are only studying to further your knowledge you don't need to sit the exam, but it is recommended and a great way to finish out the course.

Also if you don't sit the exam you won't get the certificate.

What will I gain?

Once you have passed your exam you will be awarded the WSET Level 3 Award in Wine Certificate, a WSET lapel pin, and you will be able to use the WSET Certified logo.
